The first yeria (parchment sheet) of the CTC Sefer Torah is finished!   On average, there are 62 sheets per Sefer Torah, which puts us 1/62, or 1.613% of the way finished.

My problem child, the third column (mentioned in last night’s post), turned out ok, but still isn’t my best writing.   Most of the problems are things that only another sofer, or perhaps a graphic artist, may be bothered by.

On the upside, the problems in this column forced me to spend a solid four hours re-tooling my new and old quills.   As of now, they are wonderfully fine-tuned and I can’t wait to start on the next yeria.

Also -  A big yasher koach to Rabbi Hillel Lichtenstein who has agreed to be the baal magiah (editor) as I write this sefer.  The halacho is that a new Sefer Torah must be checked numerous times for scribal errors before it can be used.   This is an arduous task and one that the Sofer usually divides up with others.     R’ Hillel is a master Baal Koreh, and will be a tremendous help in getting this Sefer Torah “Shul Ready.”

A gute Vokh!

  1. Being that I’m neither a sofer nor a graphic artist, and that I’ve seen this yeria in person, I’m awed by the beauty and kedusha of the page. Keep up the great work!
