The 7th Yeria - All Done!

The seventh yeria is all done ! Everything went pretty much as expected – no real surprises.

You may notice that the writing looks  closer in some sections here that it has in previous yerios.  This is because this yeria contains a preponderance of yeser lines (lines that have more letters in them than they are intended to accommodate – see Monday’s post for more info…)

This sheet covers a lot of significant events in the Torah.  Avraham, following the passing of Sarah, orders his servant to seek out a wife for his son, Yitzchok.   Yitzchok Marries, and has children of his own: Yaakov and Eisav.   The yeria ends with Eisav spurning his birthright.

Long night of checking the 7th yeria, doing some corrections, and adding in taggim where needed to wrap it up.   By tomorrow afternoon the entire 7th yeria should be done and I will post some pics.

The Fifth Yeria & Columns 16 to 19

The fifth yeria is done and the the sixth is well under way as I type – There was a few days down-time this week as I awaited a new shipment of klaf (parchment).   I mostly used the time to proofread what had been written so far and to clean up a few passages.   Enjoy these pics, and check back soon!

Here are some pictures from today’s writing – there are a few lines left in order to reach today’s quota, but this is the progress thus far.   A friend sent me an interesting question today, asking why the lines of writing, and even some of the constituent strokes of the letters, don’t look perfectly straight in the photos posted.

Under the heat of my drafting lamp and of my arms on the parchment, the parchment wrinkles and warps.  So, in the photos. you are not seeing erratic lines on a flat surface, rather you are seeing straight lines on an erratic surface…

After rolling up the sheet and storing it for a bit, it goes flat once again.

Columns 12, 13, & 14

Completed column 14 this evening -  The writing had a bit of trouble at the start of this column because my quill underwent some weather-related warping.  After some gentle trimming and coaxing, things came together in the second half of the column.   By this Saturday night, I should be able to complete the writing, tagging, checking, and clean up of this sheet.  Then it is on to page 5!

Today I finished columns 12 & 13.  That takes me halfway through the 4th yeria (page) which I hope to finish after Shabbos.   That places us at a little over 6% completion, page wise.
