If you cover the bottom of the line, the head of the lamed is not visible, and is considered to not be nikhnas at all into the challal. If the head of the lamed was any higher, then you may have to make a shailos tinok. If it went completely into the space of the khaf peshuta, meaning completely above the bottom margin of the text, then it would be mamash posul.See also the Mishnas ha-Sofer, and Keshiva ke-Hilchasa, os Khaf peshuta. It would have been better for me to have written the lamed's head before the kaf peshuta, but it was too late at that point, and stretching it would have been risky because I already had to compress the end of the line!

Regarding a question that was asked – in the word “el” the lamed appears to enter the space below the khaf peshuta above it.

According to the Mishna Berurah 32: SK 131, the Shu”t Maharim Brisk 8, and Rabbi Akiva Eiger in his Chidushim, this because it does not enter the actual challal, only the avir. Since they have no apparent hakpoda, and I write better in Ksav Ari, I chose to use the ksav. You're probably asking because of the machlokes about the tzaddi hafucha. When I was learning safrus I asked a lot of shailos about this because I saw lots of Ashkenaz kehillos using ksav Ari zal and lots of Ashkenazi tefillin that used ksav Ari. The answer I got was that we do not hold that the Gaon's shitto on the Tzaddi hafucha is ke-halacha; there is no hakpoda about using it. The only posek today who maintains the Gaon's opposition is Rav Shternbuch. However, the vast majority of soferim do not agree with him. Both Rav Wosners (Rav Shmuel HaLevi and his grandson, Rav Avraham) have emphatically stated that there is no problem even lechatchila with Ashkenazi kehillos using ksav Ari. Rav Shtern in the Mishnas HaSofer also paskens this way. To make the point even further, Rav Shmuel haLevi Wosner tells over that he showed the Chazon Ish the Chasam Sofer's shitto on the Tzaddi hafucha, which is mashma that the tzaddi hafucha is even lechatchila for Ashkenazim! Upon seeing it, the Chazon Ish told him that he couldn't oppose the use of the Tzaddi hafucha anymore. It was good talking to you on the phone today! - Stay in touch!

The shul I am writing for has two sifrei Torah currently, one ksav BY and another ksav Ari. The writing is getting back on track now. I have two videos that I am touching up now and getting ready to post - they should be ready next week. Thanks for your continued interest - and please keep checking in!

Apologies for the delay – I had a rather severe back injury and was unable to write or do much for the past few months.
